Commercial & Events Manager-Horticulture

£28,970 to £32,157 per annum

Hours: Full time - 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
Locations: Hadlow
We are looking for highly motivated individual to manage and maintain our commercial horticultural resources to a high standard. The resources include an orchard, nursery stock production and glasshouse crops. In addition to this to work with the Head of Faculty in developing the commercial, research and development of further commercial opportunities that may develop within the faculty. New marketing opportunities should be explored to promote both the commercial aspects of Horticulture at Hadlow College and the courses.

The Broadview Garden complex is part of the faculty and we are looking to develop a range of events which may be run from the grounds, part of Broadview is a commercial florist which would be directly line managed by the successful candidate and close links to be maintained and developed between curriculum and the garden centre.

In addition, the post will involve providing demonstrations, practical instruction and lecturing to our Horticultural students for between 15-18 hours per week and all the associated student assessment, advice and guidance.

The successful candidate will need:-

• a relevant Level 4 qualification or sound academic knowledge and understanding of horticulture production systems and techniques.
• A recognised full teaching qualification or the willingness to work towards one within 2 years;
• Literacy and Numeracy at Level 2 or equivalent;
• Proven experience of managing/supervising staff;
• Relevant practical experience in a range of horticultural activities;
• the ability to communicate effectively and credibly with industrial, educational and professional contacts as well as students at all levels;
• sound administration, IT and organisational skills;
• the ability to work on their own initiative and manage their own time;
• to be a team player.

Teaching and demonstrating experience and qualifications A1 and V1 (or D32/D33 and D34) would also be an advantage.
