Port/Environmental Health Support Assistants

£23607 - £25803 per annum

Ashford, Kent

New Appointments Group

We are working in partnership with Ashford Borough Council on an exciting project for border control facilities designated to a site on the outskirts of Ashford, with a planned start date of March 2021 and a 'go-live' date of April 2021. The site will provide customs and transit checks required for hauliers following Brexit. There are a high number of roles to be filled on a permanent, fixed terms and temporary basis. The site will be operational 24 hours/365 days and will require candidates to commit to a work pattern covering these hours.

The Port/Environmental Health Support Assistant roles will be assisting those undertaking a range of official controls including carrying out checks on imports of products of animal origin and high risk food not of animal origin in order to ensure that only products that are safe to eat enter the food chain.

You will work under the direct supervision of Official Veterinarians or Port Health Officers as required, assisting with the checking of organic food, illegal unreported and unregulated fishing, animal composites and other relevant controlled goods. In addition, there will be documentary checks as well as assisting in physical inspections, as required.

Qualified to Level 3 such as BTEC Environmental Health, or 2 A levels or NVQ3 or equivalent in a relevant subject. Your experience will lie from within industries associated with food, food safety, import/export sector or closely related fields.

It is desirable that you have knowledge of Council services and/or regulatory services and previous experience within an enforcement or other regulatory field. Along with awareness of EU/UK food law and H&S risks and controls
