My client is seeking an Oracle DBA who will provide production and development support for my clients database applications. This includes designing, developing and implementing database systems with advanced automation tools in accordance with industry best practices.

This is a 5 month contract INSIDE IR35 we are paying up to £500 a day

The Oracle DBA will design and document strategies for backup and recovery, performance analysis, database clustering, and data management.

The Oracle DBA will also be responsible for database connectivity using ODBC, JDBC or vendor specific architectures, provide user and developer assistance, and also be a point of escalation.



The key responsibilities of the role:



1 Develop and maintain database build standards including security to industry standards, patching and high availability
2 Monitor and manage database resources to ensure optimum performance
3 Document and manage database server procedures such as backup and restore, upgrades and disaster recovery procedures
4 Undertake maintenance and upgrades, generally out of normal business hours including weekends.
5 Provide database design support to development projects.
6 Performance tuning and diagnostics, query plan analysis and the use of AWR / ASH / ADDM
7 Review database application code and advise accordingly.
8 Manage and maintain the source code control system for the database objects.
9 Assist Unix administrators as necessary to support applications that use the databases, e.g. Weblogic Application Server, Apache server.
10 Participate in the support shift cover 8am to 6pm and be available for on-call service. Shift cover will mean that you perform tasks that may be outside of the normal responsibilities.
11 Develop and maintain a strategy for database management to include both manual procedures/spot checks and automated alerts.
12 Assist IT Security in maintaining an appropriate database security policy. Evaluate and implement applications to 'police' adherence to policy.

Key behaviours and skills required to be successful in the role:



Have experience in supporting business critical applications and servers in a multi data center/ multisite environment. In particular the jobholder will have experience in the following areas:



Oracle DBA.

9 APEX (Application Express)
10 Solaris X86 and Sparc, Red Hat Enterprise Linux
11 Grid Infrastructure / Database Patching and Upgrades



OTHER REQUIREMENTS

1 Experience of working in the finance/banking sector would be an advantage.
2 Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at both business and technical level.
3 Excellent problem solving skills, able to think clearly under pressure and across technology boundaries.
4 The ability to plan and manage work and present a clear list of tasks and time frames to management.
5 Understanding of ITIL Service Framework
6 High Availability and Disaster Recovery.
7 Experience with Public Cloud: AWS / Microsoft Azure.
8 Familiarity with monitoring products such as DataDog.
9 Shell scripting
10 DevOps and CI / CD Tools
