An opportunity to join an established insurer who underwrite a range of classes of non-marine insurance for risks based in the UK and overseas.



JOB SUMMARY

This successful post-holder will assist the Class Underwriter and work within the underwriting team to write business in line with the underwriting strategy to achieve the business plan.



Exercising your strong relationship and negotiation skills, you will be responsible for negotiating renewals and new business with brokers and clients. You will also contribute to the continuing development of the department's technical expertise and processes and be comfortable in contributing to the development and training of the underwriting assistants.



MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Underwrite new business and renewals within a range of Property/Casualty/Construction risks whilst adhering to:

* Underwriting Authorities and Guidelines, Reinsurance Protections and Risk Engineering Guidelines.
* Active communication and involvement in claims matters to help refine underwriting approach to deals and manage exposures.
* Ensure that policy records are maintained in accordance with standards.
* Develop and maintain relationships with brokers, insureds, reinsurers, risk engineers and other international offices within the group.



KEY SKILLS REQUIRED

* A proven track record within underwriting including a strong technical underwriting background across Property and Casualty or Construction classes.
* ACII qualified or part qualified and working towards full qualification (preferable).
* Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills.
* Decisive in nature, displaying good judgement in decisions and taking accountability.
* Ability to communicate at all levels (both written and verbal).
* Approachable and supportive.
* Ability to focus and produce work under pressure.
