Nature Based Solutions Project Development Officer

£28,000 - £32,000 pa, dependent upon experience

Kent Wildlife Trust

Closing Date: Midnight Wednesday 8th February 2023
Interview Date: Thursday 16th February 2023
Salary Range: £28,000 - £32,000 pa, dependent upon experience
Term: Permanent
Location: Kent. We have an agile working policy where staff can work from home, office or other agreed remote location, but location of employment will be the individual’s nearest Kent hub.

Globally and nationally wildlife is in steep decline. We appear to be reaching critical tipping points around the loss of biodiversity as well as around climate change, both being interlinked. Human society cannot prosper without wildlife and healthy ecosystems.

Kent’s wildlife needs to be restored to much higher levels. We can no longer allow common things to become rare. We can only do this by restoring large-scale habitat from degraded land. Doing this will contribute to solving global problems. But we won’t be able to do this unless we publicly aspire to a higher level of impact and show that we can deliver this.

The growing NbS team at Kent Wildlife Trust is leading on strategic direction and thinking to respond to threats from climate change and increase resilience for climate adaptation, developing new tools, techniques, approaches and relationships. You will be supporting this vital work through developing the technical advice and data around nature-based solutions, in particular carbon, to support our conservation delivery and grow the evidence base underpinning Wilder Carbon.

Project Development Officer
In this role, you will assist in the identification and development of a new programme of projects to support our landscape conservation ambitions, that will demonstrate how nature-based solutions can be proactively delivered on our own nature reserves and across the county, as well to deliver income generating NbS consultancy work for external clients. This means you will be working closely with potential project partners, including landowners and project delivery partners, as well as with teams across the Group.

Your technical knowledge, including experience of developing habitat restoration projects, understanding of current NbS policy and practice and experience of writing reports and proposals, will complement your excellent communication skills, an aptitude to build strong, effective working relationships, and your ability to think creatively and flexibly.

Kent Wildlife Trust is the leading wildlife charity for Kent and Medway, supported by its members and staffed by committed professionals. Join our team and help us create a Wilder Kent! In return we will inspire you, listen to you, value you, treat you equally and fairly, look after your health and wellbeing and encourage flexibility from day one, enabling you to draw on these benefits to be a better, happier and more productive you.
