Rehoming Officer – Kent Greyhound Rescue [KGR]
Location: Kent and surrounding areas
Salary: Salary on application
Hours: 20 hours per week, with potential to increase
About Us
Kent Greyhound Rescue is seeking a Rehoming Officer to join our team. Celebrating 15 years of rescuing and rehoming Greyhounds, Lurchers, and other sighthounds, we have evolved from a small charity on the Kent coast into one of the UK's leading organisations in this field.
Our mission focuses on helping the underdogs—those in need of emotional or physical rehabilitation—and ensuring they find loving homes.
Currently, KGR operates entirely on a volunteer basis. To expand our efforts and rehome more dogs each year, we need a dedicated Rehoming Officer to complement our volunteers. This is an exciting time to join us as we work towards establishing a new rescue centre exclusively for Greyhounds and Lurchers.
At KGR, we pride ourselves on knowing our dogs well to ensure the best family matches. A crucial part of this role involves spending time assessing and meeting dogs in kennels or foster homes across Kent, which is key to successful rehoming.
About the Role
As a Rehoming Officer, you will play a vital role in the intake, care, and adoption of dogs. Your responsibilities will include:
Intake & Assessments
• Liaising with charities, dog wardens, and the public to manage new intakes.
• Handling DEFRA paperwork and overseeing the arrival process.
• Conducting initial health assessments and behavioural evaluations for each new dog.
• Preparing detailed profiles for each dog, including temperament, needs, and ideal home environment, while taking photos and videos for content and ensuring accurate records.
• Arranging and attending vet visits.
Adoption Process Management
• Matching dogs with suitable adopters by understanding the needs of both the dog and the adopter.
• Managing adoption applications and conducting telephone interviews while adhering to policies and procedures, with flexibility to find solutions for otherwise unsuitable applications.
• Arranging home checks and providing post-adoption support.
• Attending events to promote dogs and increase adoption opportunities.
Administration & Networking
• Keeping the database updated, including refreshing dog profiles with new photos.
• Handling inquiries and generating reports.
• Collaborating with other rescues, vets, and the community to promote responsible pet ownership.
About You
• Passion for Sighthounds: A deep understanding of Greyhounds and Lurchers, along with a commitment against greyhound racing, is essential to align with our values.
• Organised and Proactive: Excellent attention to detail, adherence to policies and procedures, and the ability to adapt when needed are crucial.
• Strong Communication and Networking Skills: Ability to build positive relationships with volunteers, adopters, and partner organizations.
• Customer Service and Teamwork: Essential for strengthening our charity’s community presence and engagement.
• Creativity in Content and Branding: Understanding the importance of engaging photos and videos to help dogs find homes quickly.
• Resilience and Adaptability: The position is dynamic and fast-paced, requiring composure in unpredictable situations and a proactive approach to finding solutions for potential adopters.
• Enjoyment of Outdoor Activities and Dog Care: The role involves handling and walking dogs, so a passion for the outdoors, commitment to regular exercise, and the ability to manage larger dogs are important.
How to Apply
You don't need direct experience, as we will provide training covering the key responsibilities. However, you must possess the right attitude, passion, and willingness to learn.
• While the role is part-time at 20 hours per week, it may include weekends and occasional evenings with advance notice.
How to Apply
If you're excited about making a difference and want to be part of the KGR Rehoming Team, please email your CV and a cover letter by Monday 28th April explaining why you'd be an excellent fit for this role. Include relevant examples demonstrating your skills and passion for animal welfare.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an initial online interview, followed by a face-to-face interview, and may be asked to complete a practical assessment involving our wonderful dogs.
