My client is a growing commercial roofing company in the process of transforming its business model to support diversified revenue streams. To support this transition, the company is introducing the role of Operational Manager to assume day-to-day responsibility for managing operations, improving delivery efficiency, and embedding scalable processes across the business.
Role Purpose
The Operational Manager will be responsible for overseeing all operational aspects of the company’s delivery, ensuring projects are completed on time, on budget, and to quality standards, while maintaining strong relationships with subcontractors and clients. The role includes implementing structured project management practices, supporting workforce coordination (currently reliant on subcontractors), and introducing reporting systems to track progress status of project to support financial visibility and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
• Operational Oversight: Manage daily operations, subcontractor scheduling, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Estimating / bid response for roofing
• Process Improvement: Introduce workflows and performance tracking to support efficiency and financial visibility.
• Systems & Technology: Support the reintroduction and operational use of the CRM system, ensuring accurate tracking of project status, client data, and subcontractor availability. Work closely with the business transformation consultant to implement project management and scheduling. Ensure accurate, real-time data input from field teams using digital tools.
• Team & Resource Management: Coordinate with Team Leads, manage capacity planning, and lead weekly operational reviews.
• Client Communication: Maintain strong relationships with clients and partners, providing regular updates and resolving issues.
Key Skills and Experience
• 5–10 years in operations management within roofing (industry knowledge of roofing is a MUST, direct or indirect).
• Experience with subcontractor-led delivery models
• Skilled in project scheduling tools, CRMs (Insightly or similar), and digital reporting.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Solid understanding of health & safety and quality assurance in construction.
Desirable Qualifications & Skills
• HNC/HND or degree in Construction/Project Management or equivalent experience.
• SMSTS, CSCS, First Aid, Temporary Works certification.
• Familiarity with Xero, Jobber, Buildertrend, or similar tools
