Lead Python Engineer highly innovative, technology-led organisation that is looking to its growing engineering team.

This is a hands-on leadership role for an accomplished Python engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, setting high engineering standards and helping other developers perform at their best.

You will remain closely involved in the design and development of production software while providing technical direction, mentoring engineers and helping shape the continued evolution of the organisation’s platforms.

The role

As Lead Python Engineer, you will:

* Lead the design and development of scalable, resilient and high-performing Python applications.
* Set engineering standards across code quality, testing, architecture and delivery.
* Provide technical leadership and guidance across the engineering team.
* Mentor engineers and support their continued technical development.
* Work closely with product, delivery and engineering stakeholders to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.
* Take ownership of complex technical challenges and support engineers in resolving difficult problems.
* Identify and address technical debt while balancing delivery priorities and long-term platform improvements.
* Contribute to architectural decisions across services, APIs and distributed systems.
* Drive continuous improvement across development tooling, automation and CI/CD.
* Promote strong software engineering practices, including automated testing, peer review and secure development.
* Identify and manage technical risks before they affect delivery or platform stability.
* Help create a collaborative, accountable and high-performing engineering culture.

Skills and experience

The successful candidate will ideally have:

* Extensive commercial experience developing production software using Python.
* Previous experience operating as a Lead Engineer, Technical Lead or highly experienced Senior Python Engineer.
* Strong knowledge of software architecture, object-oriented programming and modern engineering principles.
* Experience designing and building APIs, microservices and distributed systems.
* Experience developing scalable applications within cloud-based environments.
* Strong knowledge of automated testing and test-driven development.
* Experience working with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices and infrastructure automation.
* Knowledge of containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
* Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases.
* A strong understanding of system resilience, performance, security and observability.
* Experience reviewing code and improving engineering standards.
* The ability to mentor engineers and provide constructive technical guidance.
* Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
