Learning Developer – Faculty of Health & Wellbeing (Medway)

Background
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Student Learning Development & Research Support team within the Library and Learning Resources (LLR) Department as a Learning Developer for the Faculty of Health & Wellbeing, based at the Medway campus.
The Student Learning Development & Research Support team is responsible for providing discipline-specific academic support to students and staff within the University Schools and Faculties. The team includes the faculty based Learning Developers, a Learning Developer with an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) focus, and a team of Learning & Research Librarians.
The Role
The Learning Developers work closely with academic and professional services staff to support sustainable learning development practices for both students and lecturers with a particular emphasis on embedding and enhancing academic literacies to ensure students and staff are supported across the campus network, embedding and enhancing academic literacies.
Learning Developers provide consultancy and guidance to staff and students in the specialist field of language, literacy and academic practices. Each developer has responsibility for a particular School or Faculty, working closely with programme teams to enhance and reduce barriers to learning. They contribute to inclusive curriculum development, embed academic literacies and deliver tailored workshops and tutorials to students as appropriate.
The advertised post will provide a sustainable model of learning development within the Faculty of Health & Wellbeing.
The Person
You will be a qualified teacher who has significant experience of teaching and/or facilitating learning within an academic context. A specialist language qualification (e.g. CELTA, PG Dip. TESOL), or demonstrable equivalent experience, would be advantageous given the focus of the role in developing the language skills of both native and non-native speakers of English within an academic context. You will be a proactive developer who, as an agent for change, is able advocate, influence and persuade others, and will be resilient in creating and maintaining relationships within your Faculty and the wider university. The role will require taking a strategic perspective that will enable you to prioritise your time effectively to enhance student learning. You will also have an awareness of current issues which affect Higher Education and the role of a learning developer, as well as knowledge of the relevant resources and academic disciplines supported.
Additional Information
The post-holder will be based in Medway, but will be required to work peripatetically, working across the Medway and Canterbury Campus as appropriate.
