Commercial Heating Engineer required for HMP Maidstone

QUALIFIED COMMERCIAL HEATING ENGINEER
HM Prison Maidstone, Kent.



Overview of the position:

As the leading supplier to the HM Prison Service for the provision of maintenance trades & support operatives, Hays is seeking to recruit multiple qualified trades, including a Qualified Heating Engineer.

This is a long term contract with the potential for a permanent position offered working on a shift basis which is a 3 week pattern. Weekends would be included. More information on this can be provided. This works out as 1 weekend in every 3.
The rate is from £20 per hour Monday to Friday hours, Saturday at £25 per hour and Sunday paid at £27 per hour. This is paid via an Umbrella PAYE option. A PAYE alternative is available at a slightly reduced amount.

Experience:

City & Guilds or NVQ Level 2 in Plumbing and Heating is essential.
The prison is looking for a qualified multi-skilled Commercial Heating Engineer with a maintenance background you will be required to take the lead and maintain the heating plant on site making sure the plant is fit for purpose carry out PPM and reactive tasks. The role will also include plumbing duties around the site.

You will be required to carry out varied duties such as reactive repairs & small planned projects and maintenance. Previous experience in a prison/ public sector is not required for this role. The nature of the role requires candidates to be security conscious and able to challenge potential compromises and risks, you will also need to be reliable and consistent, level headed and have exceptional interpersonal skills. Full training on working within a prison is provided by the establishment/ department.


Purpose of the Maintenance role:

As part of the Works Department you will be responsible for both reactive repairs and planned and preventative maintenance.

The Maintenance role is in a unique working environment with a strong sense of team working. Always in demand, you could benefit from long-term contracts and there is also potential, once trained, to work in other prisons both locally and nationally. You must be local to the prison or have your own transport.


Security Clearance required:

All applicants will be subject to the HM Prison Service Security Clearance procedure which can take up to 6 weeks, this can include a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. You must hold a Valid Passport or Birth Certificate & Photo Driving Licence in your current address. All applicants must be able to provide details of 2 satisfactory references, at least one from an ex-employer.
