We are seeking an Interim Internal Auditor for our client who is a Local Authority in the South East. The role will involve providing internal audit services to the council, with the aim of supporting them in managing an effective business and achieving their objectives.

They are looking for a self-motivated, professional, competent and enthusiastic person who is able to communicate well at all levels. This role will provide you with the opportunity to make a real difference by providing advice, insight and assistance to senior managers to improve their governance, risk management and control framework. You will therefore possess excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work and communicate with senior management from a wide range of disciplines and levels.

Responsibilities include:

* Undertake planned audits using a risk-based audit approach
* Review and advise on policies, procedures, guidance notes and regulations
* Provide advice in relation to risks and controls to council staff
* Assist the Head of Internal Audit with ad-hoc tasks to ensure delivery of the internal audit service
* Promote awareness of internal audit across the council

The ideal candidate will have relevant audit, risk management and/or corporate governance experience with a sound understanding of risk based internal audit techniques and methodologies.

Desired experience/qualifications:

* Hold a recognised professional audit qualification (e.g. CIA, CIPFA, ACA)
* Sound knowledge of auditing principles and standards as set out in the Public Sector Internal Audit Standards (PSIAS)
* Experience working in the public sector
* Practical experience of financial management systems
