SUPPORT WORKER

We are proud to say that support workers at the Kent Autistic Trust are quite unique. We provide comprehensive training and assessment for new staff, with the aim that within 12 months they will be promoted to Specialist Support Workers, and after that we continue to develop our talent through an ongoing learning and development curriculum.

We have a superb track record of successfully supporting individuals with autism, including those with non-verbal communication needs and self-injurious behavior.

We provide 24-hour support and care for autistic adults. Staff provide physical, emotional, and personal care, as well as domestic services in various settings. Some of those we support also have medical conditions including epilepsy.

Working for us often means that no two days are the same, but the care and support we give is consistently high quality, with CQC rating all of our services good, and many outstanding.

Having a background in supporting people with Autism in a previous role within a social care environment is desirable, although it isn\'t essential. What is essential is that you understand that autism can be complex and challenging and that each person we support is unique.

We seek staff who really value every person whether it\'s the people we support, their families or carers, or other staff by respecting their priorities, needs, abilities and limits.

The logistics of the work we do necessitate transporting the people we support to appointments, activities or days out. Driving is therefore an INTEGRAL RESPONSIBILITY of many of our jobs. Drivers NEED A FULL DRIVING LICENCE and the confidence and willingness to drive a small minibus (people carrier) or a mobility car.

You will need a sufficient level of fitness as the job is likely to place physical demands on staff including a range of motions of upper extremities, aerobic capacity, strength, body mechanics, balance and ability to follow directions, and are you do you understand that as part of the job you will assist people we support with activities such as swimming which would involve you entering the pool, or participating in activities such as walking or cycling.

o 28 days holiday, rising to 33 days after 1 year (Pro Rata for Part Time Positions)
