Residential Support Officer

Salary: £21,006 - £23,903 Full time salary
Hours: Full time - 37 hours per week
Working mainly evenings, weekends and nights on a roster in term time
Working daytime hours’ weekdays out of term time
Locations: Residential (Live in), Hadlow College
We are looking for a self-motivated and committed person to participate effectively as a member of the Student Support Services Team in order to ensure safeguarding and student welfare are prioritised. The role will involve supporting students in a range of personal, social skills and enrichment activities in support of their progression.
The post holder will demonstrate and maintain a high standard of health and safety vigilance within and around the College residential accommodation areas. They should be able to communicate effectively between the Student Support Services Team, curriculum staff, students, parents, external agencies and emergency services. They should set an example in terms of conduct and behaviour, whilst helping students contribute to college and community life, to enjoy and achieve whilst at college and gain transferable employability skills.
The role will involve working a shift pattern as agreed with the Lead Residential Support Officer to ensure that staff numbers are sufficient for the students’ needs and activities involved, the role will also include patrolling the campus in all-weather elements.
As the role is all year round, the candidate will be able to provide administrative support and assistance with the preparation of the residential provision. Duties will include a comprehensive range of secretarial and administration duties to support the student support services team including the use of word processing, databases and spreadsheets, assisting with telephone enquiries, supporting with student enquiries and liaising with other support and curriculum departments. To work in collaboration with the Residential Support and Enrichment Officer in the planning, preparation and design of the student social, sporting and recreational provision and calendar of events, ensuring a full, relevant and effective programme of activities are in place.
The successful applicant for this role must have excellent organisation and communication skills, a practical approach to routine tasks and be willing to work flexible hours. It is essential that they have a minimum of Level 2 Maths and English. Competent IT skills, ability to organise own workload and a clean current driving licence.
The position is residential and on site accommodation will be provided at a subsidized cost.
As part of the requirement of living in residential accommodation attached to this role you will also be required to:

• Respond to fire alarms if on duty, or not on duty but on site – Term time only
• Respond as necessary to security alarms if on duty, or not on duty but on site – Term time only
• Be available to work in the event of adverse weather conditions e.g. where staff are unable to get in
• Cover shifts as and when necessary in the event of emergency cover needed
• Be back up in the event of an emergency/critical incident when not on duty
• To be part of a team of residential staff looking out for and responding to anything untoward happening on campus
• To be contactable via the residential back up phone for emergency situations – term time only

You will be required to undertake an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check and to provide proof of your right to work in the UK.
