The person holding the position of Health Care Assistant should have the following qualifications, qualities and competencies:
a. understanding of the care of the older person;
b. comply with the General Social Care Council Code of Practice for Social Care Workers;
c. good interpersonal skills;
d. good communication skills:
e. enthusiasm and flexibility;
f. an awareness of the Charter of Rights;
g. understanding and work within the boundaries of confidentiality and limitations of the role.
NVQ level 2
Primary Purpose. To support the nurse/carer in charge in providing and maintaining continuity of care over a duty period. To support the Home Manager in ensuring standards of care are maintained. To share with other staff in meeting the personal care needs of residents in a way that respects the dignity of the individual and promotes independence.
