Would you like to support students in reaching their academic and personal goals? Would you like to support students in overcoming obstacles that stand between them and academic success? Do you have experience of providing intensive academic or pastoral support to a range of diverse individuals?
We have an exciting opportunity for two individuals to join the Criminology, Sociology and Forensic Investigation Section at CCCU to provide high quality support to our students, help them to raise their aspirations and support them in achieving their goals. To be successful, you will have a strong academic background and either provide evidence of providing high quality tuition and support to university students or evidence of your experience in supporting individuals who come from disadvantaged backgrounds, have extenuating personal circumstances, or have additional needs due to disability, mental illness, medical conditions, neurodiversity or learning disorders. Individuals who have experience of both academic and pastoral support will be an advantage. You will use your expertise to strengthen our current student support strategies and improve student retention and success. You will also work with colleagues to improve the student experience, the student voice and the student community.
The Applied Criminology, Sociology and Forensic Investigation courses sit within the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Social Sciences, in the School of Law, Policing and Social Sciences, which brings together Law, Politics, Policing, Forensic Investigation, Applied Criminology and Sociology in one vibrant community. As a school, we are dedicated to excellence in teaching, learning, assessing and supporting students, all of which is supported by our experience as researchers and practitioners. We are also dedicated to supporting our staff and students to fulfil their academic and professional goals.
The Role
The successful candidate will work collaboratively across Criminology, Sociology and Forensic Investigation to develop & improve our study skills and pastoral support across the section of Criminology, Sociology & Forensic Investigation and provide 1:1 and group study skills training / support for all students and 1:1 support for disadvantaged students, vulnerable students and students with significant additional needs (e.g. disability, mental illness, neurodiversity, or learning disorders). You will play a key role in addressing barriers to learning and providing bespoke support to students, according to their needs.
The Person
We hope to recruit student focused individuals who have experience of working in the sector and extensive experience of supporting individuals. Qualification at Masters level (or equivalent) is essential, and you must have HE qualifications in a subject that is relevant to the role. You will provide support to students from a wide range of backgrounds and will be keen to support students and promote student success. We are seeking a team player who is committed to providing an excellent student support experience.
