Estates Technician
£28,141 per annum, plus an additional £100 for each week spent on-call for out of hours emergencies.
  Tonbridge, Kent
  permanent,full-time

Where you’ll work: This role is based at North Kent College’s Tonbridge campus.

Your hours: 42.5 hours per week, 52 weeks per annum, to be worked on a shift rota basis (earlies and lates) covering the hours of 6am – 7pm Monday to Friday. You will also be required to participate in an emergency out of hours on-call rota, which will require you to be on-call an average of one week in four.

Your pay: £28,141 per annum, plus an additional £100 for each week spent on-call for out of hours emergencies.

North Kent College (including Hadlow College) is proudly rated as an Ofsted ‘Good’ provider, with ‘Outstanding’ learner behaviours and attitudes (April 2024). With four campuses across Kent and 4,000 students, we strive to equip the young people who study here with an inclusive and innovative education experience to enhance their future career prospects, which, as noted by Ofsted, is supported through our high-quality, industry standard facilities. Each and every staff member plays a key part in delivering the success of our learners’ experience, and we want those who join our curriculum and support teams to share our passion in achieving this.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced and capable Estates Technician to join our friendly and proactive Estates team.

Reporting to the Estates Manager, the post holder will be responsible for carrying out reactive, planned preventative, and regulatory maintenance and repairs to College buildings, in addition to ensuring utilities, plant, machinery and equipment are also correctly maintained. You will assess and carry out emergency repairs, such as domestic plumbing, changing light bulbs, lock issues and minor furniture repairs.

You will also contribute to the maintenance of the register of Estates Risk Assessments, CoSHH Risk Assessments, emergency light tests, fire control and ensure that chemicals are safely stored, and their use properly recorded. The post holder will be expected to ensure that their work is completed in a timely manner and recorded, electronically via a PC, on the Estates Helpdesk.

If you have a full driving licence, are open to further skill-based training, have the ability to undertake full the demands of the role, are confident in the use of a broad range of power tools, and have excellent communication skills, then we welcome your application.

As part of the staff of North Kent College Business Services Ltd (a wholly owned subsidiary of North Kent College), you can look forward to a generous benefits offer, including 33 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, enrolment onto the People’s Partnership pension scheme, free parking, and access to a range of onsite facilities (including restaurants and coffee shops).

It is an offence to apply for a post which involves engaging in regulated activity relevant to children if you are barred from doing so. Please be advised that, again in line with ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, shortlisted candidates (who wish to accept an invite to interview) will be required to complete and submit prior to their interview a self-declaration of their criminal record or information that would make them unsuitable to work with children.
