Lecturer in Construction
£35,862 to £44,121 per annum full time equivalent, dependent on qualifications and experience.
  Kent
  permanent,full-time/part-time

An exciting opportunity has become available within the Construction curriculum area at North Kent College for a qualified, experienced, and enthusiastic professional to join the team as a Lecturer in Construction Crafts. As the CTEC (Centre of Technical Excellence in Construction) for the South East Region, we are seeking applications from those qualified and experienced in Bricklaying, Carpentry, Design and the Built Environment or Multi-Trades. We want you to be able to contribute to the workforce of tomorrow by sharing your skills, industry knowledge and expertise.

You’ll be required to prepare, teach, and assess at a variety of qualification levels, providing support and guidance to your learners as they progress through their studies. You will bring in-depth knowledge of the subject area, strengthened by relevant industry or professional experience, alongside a formal qualification that supports your expertise.

We are looking for a collaborative team player with excellent communication skills, who can take a proactive approach, demonstrate strong attention to detail, and work effectively to demanding deadlines.

If you have teaching experience, especially within Further Education this is desirable but not essential. Similarly, while a full teaching qualification (Level 5 or higher) is not required at the time of appointment, you must be willing to achieve this within three years of employment, fully supported by the College. For those who have not taught before, but are looking to get into education, the Department for Education have instituted a  targeted retention scheme for FE teachers which provides up to £6000 a year additional pay for the first 5 years for eligible applicants who are in their first technical teaching role.

The Role:

Where you’ll work: This role is multi-sited and the successful candidate may be asked to contribute to the curriculum at our Hadlow, Tonbridge and Gravesend campuses.

Your hours: 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per annum (1 FTE).

Your contract: This is a full time, fixed-term contract to start after 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2029.

Your pay: £35,862 to £44,121 per annum full time equivalent, dependent on qualifications and experience.

The College:

North Kent College (including Hadlow College) is proudly rated as an Ofsted ‘Good’ provider, with ‘Outstanding’ learner behaviours and attitudes (April 2024). With four campuses across Kent and 4,000 students, we strive to equip the young people who study here with an inclusive and innovative education experience to enhance their future career prospects, which, as noted by Ofsted, is supported through our high-quality, industry standard facilities. Each and every staff member plays a key part in delivering the success of our learners’ experience, and we want those who join our curriculum and support teams to share our passion in achieving this.

The Benefits:

In addition to a competitive salary, you can expect the following as a Lecturer at NKC:

42 days’ annual leave, plus bank holidays (pro rata for part-time contracts).
Enrolment onto the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS), one of the most generous in the country.
Access to free parking and a number of onsite facilities, including gyms, restaurants and coffee shops.
CPD and support from our in-house Teaching & Learning team, who coach, train, and guide our Lecturers through their teaching journey, from unqualified and new to teaching to qualified and experienced.

How to Apply:

If this sounds like the next role for you, please visit the North Kent College staff vacancies page to see the full job description and apply.

Please note that the closing date for applications is 16 March 2026, with interviews scheduled to take place on 25 March 2026.

North Kent College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and all staff have a responsibility to share and maintain this commitment. In line with the requirements of ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, appropriate safeguarding checks (including an enhanced DBS check) will be undertaken on all individuals selected for appointment.
