Engagement Officer (Part-Time, Contract)

Help shape the future of Ramsgate

Heritage Lab Ramsgate is growing – and we’re looking for a proactive, people-focused Engagement Officer to join us at a pivotal moment.

We’re working to bring historic buildings and community assets back into meaningful use – supporting jobs, creativity and long-term regeneration across Ramsgate. We’ve taken our first major step with redeveloping the Old Wine Warehouse into three new business and we’re now developing a wider pipeline of projects across the town and growing partnerships with local organisations.

With new investment and support from Historic England, we’re entering a new phase – focused on strengthening partnerships, growing a town-wide network around heritage buildings, and ensuring local people are actively shaping what happens next.

About the Role
This is a hands-on, outward-facing role at the centre of our work.
You’ll play a key role in delivering our “Connecting Ramsgate’s Heritage” programme, working collaboratively with local partners, organisations and stakeholders to strengthen how we work together around heritage buildings and regeneration.

A central part of the role will be supporting and coordinating the Ramsgate Heritage Community Buildings Forum – helping to bring partners together, build strong relationships, and collectively shape a shared pipeline of heritage-led projects across the town.

Alongside this, you’ll support our wider engagement and communications – helping us tell our shared story, grow participation, and ensure that local voices are reflected in the future of Ramsgate’s historic built environment.

What You’ll Be Doing
• Building and maintaining relationships with local organisations, partners and stakeholders
• Supporting and coordinating the Heritage Community Buildings Forum, working collaboratively with members
• Contributing to the development of a shared pipeline of heritage-led projects across Ramsgate
• Working with funders, including Historic England and National Lottery Heritage Fund, including
supporting the application for and management of small grants
• Planning and delivering events, workshops and engagement activity
• Creating and managing content across social media, newsletters and the website
• Supporting campaigns, communications and storytelling
• Designing and delivering inclusive public engagement and consultation activity

About You
• Strong connection to Ramsgate
• An excellent communicator – confident, articulate and able to engage a wide range of people
• Outgoing, approachable and empathetic, with the ability to build trust and strong relationships
• Organised, proactive and able to take initiative
• Confident creating content and engaging audiences across different channels
• Interested in heritage, regeneration and community-led change
• Enjoy working as part of a collaborative, purpose-driven team

Why Join Us?
This is a chance to be at the centre of something growing – helping connect people, unlock new opportunities, and turn ideas into real projects.

You’ll be part of a small, ambitious team working at the intersection of heritage, community and regeneration, with the opportunity to shape how partners collaborate and how projects come forward.

It’s a role where you can make a tangible difference – supporting new activity, building relationships across the town, and helping to shape the future of heritage-led regeneration in Ramsgate.

Key Details
• Part-time contract (c. 2.5 days per week), 46 weeks per year, initially for one year with potential to
extend to three years.
• £15,000 rising to £15,600 in year 2* and £16,224 in year 3*
[*subject to funding confirmation]
• Freelance/self-employed basis
• Based at Ramsgate Works minimum 1 day per week and/or home, with local travel
