Are you passionate about data protection? Do you want to develop a career in information governance in an organisation that transform people’s lives? Do you enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and when not two days are the same? Do you have an ability to find simple practical solution to complex problems?

If so, perhaps it is time to bring your skills to a university.

Canterbury Christ Church University is seeking a part-time Information Governance Administrator to join our Governance and Legal Services team.

The Opportunity

As an Information Governance Administrator, you will be the crucial first point of contact for information rights requests, freedom of information requests and other information governance and data protection-related matters such as data breaches investigation and recovery. You will understand how GDPR fits into the bigger picture and ambitions of the University. You will advise and guide individuals across the organisation on all aspects of the various information legislation.

You will have strong interpersonal skills with a willingness to build and maintain strong professional relationships to help promote the information governance ethos across the University. You will support with training colleagues and actively promote best practice to ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations.

Information Governance and Data Protection sits within Governance and Legal Services headed up by the University Solicitor and Clerk to the Governing Body. We are a small but friendly and supportive team. Personal development is highly valued, and we will offer the role holder data protection training making this a great opportunity to move into or develop within information governance.

Who are we looking for?

We welcome professionals ideally with some experience in data protection and/or data management from any sector so long as you are keen to learn about data protection in a university environment that embraces both research and teaching.

For this role, the challenge is combining technical knowledge with a very human approach. You need to communicate technical things in a way that interests people working in different levels and different areas.

That is what our ideal Information Governance Administrator will have:

Administrative experience in a busy office environment with the ability to independently manage and meet many conflicting deadlines and work under pressure.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge and understanding of the relevant data protection legislation, other information governance requirements, information security standards, ICO guidance and records management.
A-level, graduate or equivalent in data protection, information governance, administrative, record management, paralegal or be working toward this.

How will you work?

We are committed to supporting flexible methods of working wherever possible. This role is intended to involve hybrid working under the University’s ‘flexible and connected (Professional Services)’ model.

Campus attendance will vary on a day-to-day basis and across the year but must purposefully align to the needs of our students, staff, and stakeholders. It is expected that there will be a relatively even balance between time spent on and off campus; but in most cases the work location will be determined by the service required or the tasks/activities being undertaken.

How to apply

Start date for applications: 04/06/2026
Closing date for applications: 29/06/2026
Interview pre-assessment (online up to 1 hour): 07/07/2026
Interviews are to be held: 08/07/2026
